Safeguarding Children

  • 19 Oct 2020

Every child and young person has the right to have fun and be safe and free from harm, whether training at a local club or school or representing their country at the international level.

Safeguarding is about keeping all children safe from harm, abuse, violence, exploitation, and neglect. It is a shared responsibility and applies to anyone involved in the rowing experiences offered in New Zealand clubs.

Effective measures will safeguard everyone in sport, from participants through to coaches and volunteers. The benefits of having effective measures in place at your club and school are relevant for all that participate in rowing, and include:

  • Safe and enjoyable experiences for participants
  • Everyone knowing what is and is not acceptable conduct
  • Participants knowing how to report a concern
  • Coaches being protected and not placed in vulnerable positions
  • Participants and coaches knowing how to access support
  • Management knowing how to respond to any concerns

The below policy template and poster sets out guidelines and procedures your rowing programme can put in place to ensure safeguarding is adopted fully by your organisation.

For the purposes of the policy and advice provided below a child is recognised as someone under the age of 18 years.
