2020 New Zealand Masters Championships - Update

  • 15 Sep 20

Further to Rowing NZ’s announcement on 25 August, we wish to confirm that the 2020 New Zealand Masters Championships scheduled to be held at 19-20 September at Lake Karapiro remains cancelled, and a national event for Masters will not be hosted in 2020.

The above decision was based upon crucial event factors such as New Zealand’s current Level 2 status, the high number of Karapiro Rowing staff and volunteers required to facilitate the event, the high number of athletes expected to compete and the significant amount of regional and inter-island travel required by all those wishing to attend the event in various capacities.

Rowing NZ appreciate the cancellation of national rowing events throughout 2020 have been sadly received by rowing community, but remain supportive of the Government’s COVID-19 containment initiatives, and understand their intent is to avoid non-essential gatherings that will increase the community risk for the spread of COVID-19.

Rowing NZ encourage Associations and Clubs to continue planning regional rowing events for school, university, club, masters, para and indoor rowers.
