Paris 2024 Lightweight Rowing Project Squad

  • 21 May 21

In December 2020 the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that the Rowing programme for 2024 would remain unchanged from Tokyo 2020. This means that the lightweight double scull will be contested across both genders and it is the intention of Rowing NZ to support athletes capable of gaining qualification to these events over the course of the Olympic Cycle.

Rowing NZ is calling for expressions of interest from athletes tracking towards elite lightweight selection within the 2024 Olympic Cycle. An athlete can nominate for selection here. Athletes will be asked to provide details of current training status, 2k and 5k ergometer PB as well as anthropometric data.

Athletes wishing to gain selection for the Project Squad will be required to complete a 2k and 5k test between the 16 – 20 August and attend the National Development Regatta and Camp at Lake Karapiro from 23 – 28 August 2021. Shortlisted athletes will then be invited to attend up to three development camps between September and December 2021. As part of their selection, athletes will be asked to compete in the Premier Single Sculls event at the Karapiro Christmas Regatta. Final selection to the Project Squad will be made after this.

Any athlete that is nominating for the Project Squad can gain support from the National Pathway Coaches in the build up to the Development Regatta to guide their training and preparation.
