2021 New Zealand Masters Rowing Championship - 2nd October Update

  • 02 Oct 21

Since the beginning of the worldwide Covid Pandemic in 2020, Aotearoa and the rest of the world have seen a number of events either cancelled or postponed due to widespread transmission of the Covid-19 virus.

Rowing NZ would like to:

  • Thank the entire rowing community for their understanding and patience during this frustrating time.
  • Acknowledge our rowing whanau in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, who are still living with restrictions and are unable to enjoy the sport we all love.
  • Acknowledge Peter and the tīma at South Island Rowing who have worked hard over the past 12 months to produce a Level 2 Regatta Safety plan specific to their venue at Lake Ruataniwha. This plan has been confirmed and will enable the 2021 New Zealand Masters Championships to take place under Level 2 conditions and/or enable regions to attend the Championships who may be in Level 2 at the time of the regatta.

South Island Rowing and Rowing NZ anticipate there will be a number of questions as to how the regatta will be run under Level 2, so have provided the following 2021 New Zealand Masters Rowing Championships – Level 2 document that outlines important information for individual rowers and clubs.

For any further questions, please contact the SIR Covid Logistic Manager, Logan Keys - covid@ruataniwha.co.nz

We look forward to seeing our masters community in Twizel at the end of October.

Please note that this safety plan is based on a number of considerations, such as number of athletes attending, location, age of participants, and willingness of volunteers to attend under level 2. All future regattas will be assessed on viability and risk of hosting under alert level 2.
