CANCELLED – the Rowing New Zealand National Development Camp and Regatta 23 – 28 August 2021
Kia ora,
In response to the Covid-19 scenario that is impacting all of Aotearoa, Rowing NZ has made the decision to cancel the National Development Camp & Regatta scheduled from 23 – 28 August 2021.
This decision is not taken lightly but has been made because:
- rowers from the Auckland region will not be able to participate as they will be in Level 4 lockdown when the camp starts;
- the logistics of travel and getting boats and equipment to Karāpiro has been compromised by travel restrictions and associated timelines;
- we have made an assumption, based on all the information available to us today, there will be alert level disruptions beyond Friday for all of Aotearoa so now is the right to time make this decision.
Rowing NZ has a responsibility to look after the health and wellbeing of all our people and we think this decision supports that. We are also supporting the Government position regarding non-essential movement to look after other people that could be impacted by rowers travelling to Karāpiro.
We understand this is a big decision that impacts over one-hundred rowers but it has been made in their best interests and everyone else in Aotearoa as we look to stay safe from Covid-19. All participants have been contacted via email with further information.
