Rowing NZ U19 and U21 Update

  • 05 Mar 21

On 7 December 2020 it was confirmed that due to COVID-19, Rowing NZ did not intend to send athletes to compete at international regattas throughout 2021, excluding the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta and the Tokyo Olympic Games.

It is still the intention of Rowing NZ to select and support age group squads irrespective of international travel throughout 2021. U21 nominations are open until Sunday 7 March 2021 and we encourage any athlete or coach that has not yet nominated to do so before the deadline.

Given the restrictions currently in place surrounding international travel, Rowing NZ has worked on a number of scenarios to ensure that athletes have a valuable campaign experience even if they are unable to travel overseas. Below outlines the two scenarios for both the U19 and U21 squads that are to be selected in April 2021.

Rowing NZ and Rowing Australia are in regular communication about the possibility of holding a Trans-Tasman event for all age group teams in the event of a travel bubble opening up between Australia and New Zealand. Should the opportunity arise, this would take place during one of the camp or regatta dates named above.

All athletes and coaches that have submitted an U19 or U21 nomination, will receive further communication next week.
