2021 Rocket Foods New Zealand Rowing Championships - COVID-19 Update 15 February AM
On 14 February 2021, the New Zealand Government advised as of 11.59pm on Sunday 14 February, Auckland will move to Alert Level 3 for a period of 3 days. The rest of New Zealand moved to Alert Level 2 for the same period, in place until 11.59pm on Wednesday 17 February. The New Zealand Government also advised that throughout this period, public events or mass gatherings to be held where 100 or more people are together in one place at one time, should not proceed.
As a result of this announcement, the 2021 Rocket Foods New Zealand Rowing Championships remains under review, in anticipation of a further New Zealand Government announcement to be made on Monday 15 February.
Racing will not take place on Tuesday 16 or Wednesday 17 February as originally scheduled. Rowing NZ will continue to evaluate options for a possible reduced regatta programme, and will make another announcement on Monday 15 February post the anticipated New Zealand Government update. Clubs should prepare for all possible outcomes of New Zealand’s change in Alert Level status, and the health of all athletes, coaches, supporters and volunteers should remain priority above possible training and racing. At best, the 2021 Rocket Foods New Zealand Rowing Championships will proceed as a three-day regatta only.
The Meridian Rowing Centre at Lake Ruataniwha, Twizel remains closed until further notice. No lake access will be permitted including access to the boat park and on-water training.
