Rowing NZ 2020 Event Update - 17 August

  • 17 Aug 20

2020 Battle of the Bombays - Suspended

Battle of the Bombays is hosted by Waikato University Rowing Club in conjunction with Waikato Rowing Association.

The 2020 Battle of the Bombays was scheduled to be held on the Waikato River on 22 August, with crews launching from Grantham Street, Hamilton. The regatta is open to rowers of all abilities – from novice to premier – and provides an opportunity for rowers to get out on the water with university friends. Traditionally the event pitched Waikato against Auckland, but was eventually joined by Victoria University, making the regatta a full North Island affair.

Given the Auckland region’s current Alert Level 3 status (which prohibits inter-region travel for those currently based in Auckland) and the Waikato region’s Alert Level 2 status (which prohibits events with more than 100 people in attendance) this event is unfortunately suspended.

If it is possible to host the event on a future date, Rowing NZ will publish a further announcement in due course.

2020 Legion North Island Masters Championships - Cancelled

On behalf of the Legion of Rowers and Karapiro Rowing, Rowing NZ regret to announce that the 2020 Legion North Island Masters Championships scheduled to be held 29 August at Lake Karapiro has been cancelled.

2020 New Zealand Masters Rowing Championships - Decision to be announced 26 August

The 2020 New Zealand Masters Rowing Championships at this stage remains scheduled to be held at Lake Karapiro 19 - 20 September, provided it can remain within any future government guidelines.

The Waikato region’s current Alert Level 2 status indicates no events to be held with over 100 people in attendance. Auckland region’s current Alert Level 3 status also prohibits Auckland based athletes and event officials from travelling to Lake Karapiro. Rowing NZ are awaiting further information from the Government on 26 August, upon which a final decision will be announced regarding this event.

The event’s entry opening date has been changed to 28 August onward.
