Advice for New Zealand Rowing Clubs During COVID-19 Alert Levels - 3 April

  • 03 Apr 20

Rowing NZ are continuing to follow the advice of the New Zealand Government and Ministry of Health - Manatū Hauora - who are sharing up to date information on the COVID-19 situation in New Zealand.

Rowing NZ encourage all domestic rowing clubs to review these online resources regularly, especially as this situation in New Zealand is changing rapidly.

Rowing NZ have received several queries about whether people may row on-water under Alert Level 4.

Rowing NZ has sought advice on this and under the Alert Level 4 there should be NO on-water rowing in any circumstances.

The no on-water rowing status applies to all individuals, regardless of rowing ability and access to equipment and waterways.

New Zealand Land Search and Rescue have asked New Zealanders to undertake simple outdoor exercise and to avoid areas where they could get lost or require search and rescue services. Those undertaking recreational water sports alone risk running into difficulty without means to raise an alarm, and those requiring rescue would be putting rescuers at unnecessary risk to personal and community harm.

Further information about domestic rowing club activity throughout Alert Level 1 – 4 will be published early next week.

Sport New Zealand have compiled a guide to staying active during Alert Level 4.
