2020 Junior Trial Longlist Announcement

  • 27 Mar 20

As a result of the ever evolving COVID-19 situation in New Zealand, on 20 March Rowing NZ announced a postponement of the 2020 Junior trials.

Rowing NZ will continue to take guidance from World Rowing (FISA) regarding the 2020 World Rowing Junior Championships scheduled to take place from 16 – 21 August in Bled, Slovenia. At this stage Rowing NZ intend to run Junior trials later in the year, but will monitor the COVID-19 situation in Europe and New Zealand before a final decision is made.

Junior selectors have today named longlisted athletes for a possible trial in 2020. Due to the cancellation of the 2020 Aon Maadi Cup, it was not possible to determine a final Junior trialist list. A final Junior trialist list will be announced at a later date if it is determined a Junior team should assemble for a training campaign, with a view to compete at the 2020 World Rowing Junior Championships.

Longlisted athletes named below may be required to complete further testing in their home regions ahead of a final Junior trialist list being announced. Any requirements of this nature will be communicated via email.

Rowing NZ remain supportive of the government’s COVID-19 containment initiatives, and ensuring that the health and well-being of athletes, coaches and staff remains our top priority. We are committed to maintaining regular communication with all longlisted athletes until a final decision is made regarding a hopeful 2020 World Rowing Junior Championships campaign.
