World Rowing Championships - Day One

Rowing NZ's Elite team have completed their first day of racing at the World Rowing Championships being held 25 August – 1 September in Linz, Austria. Amidst perfectly flat water conditions, 11 crews contested heats with 8 progressing straight to quarter-final races and 3 moving to repechage races.

The team of 53 athletes and 17 support staff arrived in Linz on 21 August for eight days of racing. New Zealand’s crew are joined by nearly 1200 athletes from 80 nations and this year’s regatta also acts as the qualification regatta for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Women’s Pair (W2-) - Heat

Grace Prendergast and Kerri Gowler placed first in their heat of the women’s pair and move to the quarter-final.

Lightweight Women’s Double (LW2x) - Heat

Zoe McBride and Jackie Kiddle placed first in their heat of the lightweight women’s double and progress to the quarter-final.

Women’s Single (W1x) - Heat

Emma Twigg placed first in her heat of the women’s single and progresses to the quarter-final.

Women’s Four (W4-) - Heat

Davina Waddy, Kelsi Walters, Eve Macfarlane and Phoebe Spoors placed fifth in their women’s four heat and move to a repechage.

Men’s Pair (M2-) - Heat

Thomas Murray and Michael Brake placed second in their heat of the men’s pair and move to the quarter-final.

Lightweight Men’s Double (LM2x) - Heat

Matthew Dunham and Harrison Somerville placed first in their lightweight men’s double heat and move to the quarter-final.

Men’s Four (M4-) - Heat

Ben Taylor, Ian Seymour, Thomas Mackintosh and Thomas Russel placed fourth in their men’s four heat and move to a repechage.

Men’s Quad (M4x) - Heat

Nathan Flannery, Lewis Hollows, Cameron Crampton and Jordan Parry placed third in their men’s quad heat and move to a repechage.

Lightweight Men’s Single (LM1x) - Heat

Ben van Dalen placed second in his lightweight men’s single heat and progresses to the quarter-final.

Men’s Double (M2x) - Heat

John Storey and Chris Harris placed second in their heat and move to the men’s double quarter-final.

Men’s Single (M1x) - Heat

Robbie Manson placed second in his men’s single heat and moves to the quarter-final.

Monday’s schedule includes heats in the women’s double and PR2 men’s single scull. New Zealand’s women’s eight, women’s quad and men’s eight will contest heats on Tuesday.
