Gavin Foulsham crowned champion at 2019 Aon Sydney International Rowing Regatta

  • 29 Mar 19

Today at the 2019 Aon Sydney International Rowing Regatta, Hawke’s Bay’s Gavin Foulsham was crowned the PR2 men’s single scull champion. Foulsham’s race for the PR2 M1x was combined with Australia’s PR2 W1x Kathryn Ross as there were only two entries in the men’s event and one in the women’s. Gavin won the men’s division and commented, “It’s nice to have some competition – at home I’m just trailing up and down the course on my own so it’s good. Though I don’t know if I was enough competition for Kat Ross – she’s very impressive!”

New Zealand race officials Peter Crane and Mary Birch are currently in Sydney to officiate at the regatta after Australian race officials John Murdoch and Krystin Munro officiated in Twizel during the 2019 Rocket Foods New Zealand Rowing Championships. The exchange is a reciprocal arrangement between the two countries to provide race officials with a taste at officiating on the international stage. Sonya Walker of Rowing NZ comments, “Rowing NZ is pleased to support Peter and Mary in their work with the 2019 Aon Sydney Rowing Regatta. Not only are they being exposed to how other countries manage regattas, which is incredibly valuable, we also hope the exchange programme will entice them and others to aim towards representing New Zealand at FISA events all around the world.”
