Drysdale and Twigg Victorious at Holland Beker
Mahe Drysdale and Emma Twigg have claimed the men’s and women’s single scull titles at the prestigious Holland Beker regatta in the Netherlands.
Olympic Champion Mahe Drysdale powered ahead in the final to claim his fifth Holland Beker title in a time of 7:02.083, over five seconds clear of nearest rival and reigning world champion Ondrej Synek of the Czech Republic. Jean-Benoit Valschaerts of the Netherlands made up the final place on the podium.
In the women’s single sculls event 2014 world champion Emma Twigg showed her form by winning her heat and semi-final, before claiming the ladies trophy in emphatic style in a time of 7:40.25, ahead of Lisa Scheenaard of the Netherlands and Ekaterina Karsten of Belarus.
The two-time world champion duo of Zoe Stevenson and Eve Macfarlane were unable to match the pace of the Dutch crews in Sunday’s women’s double sculls event, finishing in third place behind winners Nicole Beukers and Chantal Achterberg and second place Carline Bouw and Inge Janssen.
