Coxswain workshop series
This coming Friday coxswains of all abilities will have the opportunity to attend a workshop run by New Zealand Rowing Team Coxswains Caleb Shepherd, Francie Turner and Sam Bosworth.
The course, to be held at the Don Rowlands Centre at Lake Karapiro during the Christmas regatta, aims to provide coxswains of all abilities with an overview of the tools needed to cox. The workshop goes beyond steering and safety and is designed to get coxswains to understand how important their role is and what's required.
Coxswain of the New Zealand women’s eight and world silver medallist France Turner said, “We want to create an environment where we can give back to rowing and give young coxswains something we didn't have and that's specific coaching and development. The workshop provides coxswains of all abilities with an overview of the tools needed to cox."
Caleb Shepherd coxswain of the New Zealand men’s eight who successfully qualified for the Rio Olympic Games this year said, “This workshop is about coxing fundamentals and is aimed at getting coxswains aware of exactly what their role entails and also providing a better understanding of the basic skills. We want the workshop to be really interactive and get these young coxswains actively thinking about how they can better their skills to help their crews to improve and get better results.”
