Petone four off to Henley
Petone Rowing Club will compete in the Wyford Challenge Cup at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta which starts on 1 July.
There are 54 entries in this men’s coxless fours event, through qualifying races this will reduce to 32. Qualifying Races will be by Timed Races over the Regatta Course on Friday 26 June 2015. Petone won't have to go through the qualifying races next Friday and are in the draw for the Wyford Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta.
The Petone crew heading to Henley are brothers Patrick O'Reilly and Troy O'Reilly alongside Ed Cade and Jamie Saunders. All members of the crew juggle jobs with rowing, the O’Reilly’s are labouriers, while Cade is a lawyer and Saunders works in IT. The team only found out if they had a place in the competition just three weeks before the race starts on July 1.
Top New Zealand sculler Mahe Drysdale will represent West End Rowing Club in the Diamond Sculls Challenge, where there are 17 entries. Drysdale is the defending title holder, and has won this title on four previous occasions (2006, 2009, 2010 and 2014).
