Hannah Osborne

Hannah Osborne started rowing in 2009 for Te Awamutu Rowing Club while at Piopio College. As the school didn’t offer rowing, Hannah moved to Waikato Diocesan School for Girls to continue her rowing career.

After plenty of Aon Maadi Cup successes, Hannah joined Waikato Rowing Performance Centre for the 2011/12 season and was selected in the junior women’s quadruple sculls. At the World Rowing Junior Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the crew won a bronze medal. A year later Hannah was selected in the U23 women’s quad which placed 5th at the World Rowing Championships in Linz, Austria. Following this success Hannah moved to the US where she rowed and studied at the University of Virginia. She decided to come home and pursue her rowing dreams in 2015 and was again selected in the 2016 U23 women’s quad, which finished in 7th place. Hannah has since raced as an elite women’s single sculler since 2017 and finished 8th at the World Rowing Championships in both 2017 and 2018. In 2018 Hannah also attended the Philadelphia Gold Cup regatta in the US where she won the prestigious women’s single sculls race.

In 2019 Hannah moved into the women’s reserve double and was called up to be a part of the women’s quadruple sculls at the 2019 World Rowing Championships. The quad did exceptionally well with limited preparation time, finishing in 5th place. This was New Zealand’s first women’s elite quad fielded in this Olympic cycle.

Hannah went on to become am Olympic silver medallist, placing second in the women's double scull event alongside boatmate Brooke Donoghue at the Tokyo 2020 Games. Racing in hot conditions at Tokyo's Sea Forrest Waterway Osborne and Donoghue finished second behind Romania in a time of 6m 44.82s to claim silver. Tokyo was Osborne's debut Olympic Games.

Hannah has a dog, (Irish setter) named Pippa and is studying environmental planning.
