In 2017 Alex is a part of the Men's Sweep Squad. He will compete at World Cup II, World Cup III, and Henley Royal Regatta.
Alex is a member of the men's eight that claimed sixth place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Rio was Alex's first Olympic Games having having qualified the eight for Rio at the 2015 World Rowing Championships in Aiguebelette where the crew finished in fourth place. In 2013 and 2014 Alex was an U23 World Champion in the men’s eight.
Alex was born in Rangiora and began rowing at Rangiora High School after following two of his older siblings into the sport. Alex now represents Te Awamutu Rowing Club. Outside of rowing Alex is studying journalism at university.
Alex started rowing at secondary school level competing at the Aon Maadi Cup for Rangiora High School, he won bronze in 2008 in the Boys U16 Double. Since then he has made a switch to sweep oar rowing, having represented New Zealand in the men's under-23 eight in 2013 and 2014 and is a double world champion.
