Media Accreditation Applications are now open

FOR THE 2023/2024 SEASON

Media accreditation is required for all media, and all photographers who have a national platform to share their photographs, or who are contracted to provide photographs of the event to media outlets.

Photographers who do not have a national platform to share their photographs on or who are shooting for schools/clubs are welcomed at the event, but do not require media accreditation.

To make things easier and more cohesive we are calling for media accreditation applications for the 2023/2024 season now. This will allow time for the accreditation application process (police checks etc) and this way you will only need to apply once and if your accreditation is approved that covers you for any regatta at Lake Karāpiro or Lake Ruataniwha.

Media Guidelines (these are general guidelines - there will be specific guidelines for each regatta and these will be sent to you if you are approved accredited media/photographer for that particular regatta)

Accredited media/photographers must not, film or take photos of people if they are in a place where they can expect privacy (such as a public changing area or toilet) and that person:

  • Is naked, in underclothes, showering, toileting etc
  • Is unaware of being filmed or photographed, or
  • Has not consented to be filmed or photographed.

Accredited media/photographers should not take photos of people if:

  • They are in a place where they would expect reasonable privacy and publication would be highly offensive to an objective and reasonable person
  • It has potential to stop other people's use and enjoyment of the same place
  • You have no legitimate reason for taking the film or photos.

There is no on water access except for the official event photographers/videographers.

No drones or semi-permanent/permanent photography or filming fixtures are permitted throughout the entire venue with the exception of the official event videographer's drone and the drone required for livestreaming purposes.

Accredited media will be provided with a media pass for major regattas. Accredited media must wear this accreditation pass at all times. Media vests will be provided at major regattas to indicate your accredited status, and must also be worn whenever filming or photographing.

Failure to follow any of the above Media Guidelines will result in your accreditation being revoked.

The 2024 New Zealand Secondary School Championships (Aon Maadi Regatta) will be held at Lake Ruataniwha from 18-23 of March (Sunday 24 March is the spare day).

The New Zealand Rowing Championships are being held from the 13-17 February at Lake Karāpiro.

To register for accreditation for the 2023/2024 season, please complete this form. Please note to be accepted as  accredited media you will need to agree to a police check or supply evidence of a recent check.
