Shirley Boys’ High School (SBHS) is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to fill the role of Head Rowing Coach. The successful candidate will lead our rowing program, guiding and inspiring our student-athletes to achieve excellence both on and off the water. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate coach to make a significant impact within our school community.

SBHS Rowing began in 2013 wanting to provide boys living on the eastern side of Christchurch with the opportunity to be experience the sport of rowing. Due to success both on and off the water, it has grown considerably since that time. SBHS crews regularly feature at regional, South Island and National level covering a range of boats from sculling to sweep, eights to singles and pairs - in all age group levels.

The focus of the rowing programme is to develop the squad both as rowers and as young men, while inspiring their passion of the sport. All student management and parental organisation is conducted by Rowing Managers who are senior teaching staff at Shirley Boys' High School.

Key responsibilities would include

  • 1.Develop and implement a comprehensive rowing program that fosters skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • 2.Plan and execute effective training sessions, including on-water practices and strength conditioning.
  • 3.Provide individualized coaching to athletes, focusing on technique refinement and performance enhancement.
  • 4.Organize and oversee team participation in competition regattas, and other rowing events.
  • 5.Mentor and motivate student-athletes, promoting personal growth and academic success.
  • 6.Maintain equipment, facilities, and resources necessary for the rowing program.

Hours can be flexible and work around current work/study commitments. Availability for regattas and training camps is required however some flexibility can be provided.

Remuneration will reflect your experience and availability.
