Wellington Rowing Club was named Club of the Year by Rowing New Zealand 2016, with success on the water accompanied by growing membership at all levels, a strong, positive culture and effective management.
We are looking for volunteer coaches to work within our existing framework to promote our clear technical approach and supervise our training programme, which is shared across all our adult athletes. We have men’s and women’s novice and experienced squads as well as a thriving Masters group.
The roles would suit experienced coaches or perhaps younger athletes moving away from direct participation but keen to develop coaching skills. We would like to develop the coaches who will support the club programme for the future, so hope to build a long term relationship. We would normally expect successful applicants to be available for at least the duration of the season, which ends in February.
Although these roles are unpaid, approved expenses incurred will be reimbursed (e.g. transport and accommodation for training camps and regattas.) We are not in a position to sponsor work visas to New Zealand however if you fill the criteria you would be able to apply directly to Immigration New Zealand for a working holiday visa.
Communication and interpersonal skills, commitment and self-discipline are essential. An understanding of the sport is also important, but an extensive record as an athlete, while of interest is less critical than the ability to engage with and develop diverse groups and individuals.
