Canterbury Rowing Club is building its coaching team for the upcoming 2020-2021 season. Primarily we are looking for someone to lead and oversee the club programme and we are also interested in expressions of interest for assistant coach positions.

The club programme runs from the start of September until the National Champs (February). Our training times accommodate are typically weekday evenings (e.g. 5:45pm start), weekday mornings (e.g. 6am start) and a weekend morning. We generally attend the Marlborough Champs, Otago Champs, South Islands and Nationals, as well as some smaller local regattas throughout the season. Training camp is typically in early January.

Canterbury Rowing Club prides itself on being a club run by the rowers for the rowers, and we offer rowing at all levels. We have our fair share of social events that ensure our members have a great time both on and off the water. With the NZ Club Champs being held in the South Island again this year, we are looking to build on our 2019 result of 4th club overall. Let us know if you’re keen to get on board!

Our previous Head Coach has moved out of town, so we are after an enthusiastic, experienced coach to run our club rowing programme. We are also seeking expressions of interest for assistant coach(es). With support from our senior leadership group, you will work with our athletes to help them reach their full potential. You’ll share your passion for the sport and bring either coaching experience or high-level rowing experience with a strong technical background and interest in coaching. Great teamwork, commitment, leadership, organisation and communication skills are must-haves for this role.

You will be required to attend training sessions, regattas and a training camp. The training camp is normally held for 5-6 days after New Years. You will need to plan and implement a training program, select competitive crews and work together with other coaches and club leaders.

The club squad will include males and females ranging from novice to senior.

Coaching positions will be paid. The level of payment will be determined based on your experience. We are happy to discuss this in more detail.

Hours per week required:

This can be negotiated, however an approximate requirement is 15 hours per week from September to February, a 5 day training camp in early January, 3-4 weekend regattas and nationals. We are open to the option of the head coach not attending all training sessions and instead being supported by assistants to oversee some sessions.

There may be opportunity for additional coaching work with one of our four affiliated schools, please let us know if you are interested.

Please send your CV and contact details by email to secretary@canterburyrowingclub.org.nz. If you would like to discuss the position first, please do not hesitate to contact us.
