Wellington East Girls College has a squad of 30 girls competing at Club and Secondary School competitions around the country. Our kids train and compete as part of Wellingtons Largest Rowing Club, Star Boating Club. Star support seven schools to row and has over 250 paying members.

Rowing is growing in popularity and as a result our squad doubled in size last season. Although our school is relatively new to rowing, we have enjoyed some great success including medals at Club champs and Secondary School competition level. Going into the next season, we are expecting a total squad of up to 30 girls. We are about to commence our learn to row programme which will see us introducing 12 new rowers to the squad this season.

The ideal coach will be available to attend training camps and regattas at Wanganui, Karapiro and the Wairarapa. Expenses related to camps and regattas are all covered by our squad – we take care of transport, accommodation and food – you can expect to be spoiled by our parent group and treated like family.
We were spoiled last season with four coaches. Three of these wonderful coaches are moving on – one is going overseas, one finishes University in October and the last coach is going to row in the Masters crew this year. Our Head Coach has been with the squad for seven years and with the club for over 10 years. He knows his stuff, is passionate about rowing and has two girls in the squad. You will be given independence and support if you want it. Our departing coaches are happy to share their training schedules, stats and performance programmes with a new coach.

So, if you are living in Wellington, have an interest in rowing and would like to coach instead of competing in the sport, we’d love to chat to you. Perhaps you’re studying in Wellington and want to be part of a club to meet new people or you’re working in Wellington and want to be part of the Rowing community to give back. We can make any time that you can give work for us, so please make contact to have a no obligation chat.

Coaching is great for your CV with opportunity to gain formal qualifications and great references.
