After the success of the online - Intro to coaching module, we are looking to complete a testing (beta) version of the Development Coach Module. If you would like to assist us in the completion of this task, then please register above. Please be aware there may be some technical issues while we work through this learning phase. This is reflected in the reduced cost of this course (normally $75, but for the beta version the cost will be reduced to $25)

The Development Coaching course will run for 3 consecutive Wednesday evenings in July

22nd July 6.30pm - 8.30pm (Part 1 - The coaching process looking at athlete-centered coaching skill)

29th July 6.30pm - 8.30pm (Part 2 - Sports science focusing on strength and conditioning needs, training programs and periodisation)

5th August 6.30pm - 8.30pm (Part 3 - Technique and how athletes acquire skill)

The presenters will be Rowing New Zealand's Coach developers Duncan Holland and Jared Cummings. The format will be a Zoom meeting, which will require a stable internet connection and preferably a laptop/desktop computer.

Coaches on this course will also be invited to attend a follow-up course at a time determined by the facilitator and coaches at the time of the course. This follow-up will take approximately 1 hour and is a chance to re-group, ask questions, discuss issues, and go deeper into some topic areas covered off earlier.

Once the workshop has been completed the coach will have access to the extension modules.

  • Development workshop 6-7 hours
  • Follow up workshop 1 hour

Approximate total time: 8 hours

Coaches working with development athletes are expected to have completed the Boat Safety Certificate. The New Coach Award is not a pre-requisite for this module but it is beneficial if coaches have a form of prior learning and coaching experience.
