University Trans Tasman Concludes

  • 07 Jul 17

The final day of the University Trans Tasman racing was held at Mannum on the Murray River. The course used was the old 3 mile Kings Cup course.

The first race off was the women's 8. As with the 2000m racing earlier in the week the Australian women shot out to an early lead. This stretched out to a bout 3 lengths by the 2000 metre mark. However, this wasn't the end of the race. The NZ crew made a fantastic come back to finish half a length down on the finish line.

The Men's race was similar to the earlier racing. The crews were level for the first 1500m before, in a move to make the most of the river conditions, the NZ cox took moved to the eastern side of the river. Howeever, it was not to be the Kiwi's day. Australia took the final race by a length of clear water.

These results saw Australia win the series 6 - 0. The first time the Australian Universities team has won this in over a decade.
