South Island U18 team win Menzies Trophy

  • 23 Apr 16

Last week the South Island gained the upper hand winning on overall points when they raced the North Island in the North vs South Under 18 Regatta at Lake Karapiro between 21 - 23 April.

The North and South Island Under 18 athletes raced in eights, quadruple sculls, pairs, double sculls and single sculls over three days of racing.

While no medals were awarded the Menzies Trophy was up for grabs for the island with the most points. This year the trophy went to the strong South Island team.

The regatta aims to give the best under 18 athletes throughout New Zealand the opportunity to train and race together. It's also give these top age group athletes the opportunity to view the New Zealand Junior trials, enabling them to understand the process and requirements for future junior selection.
