New Zealand rowers Julia Edward and Eric Murray have both posted world records on the ergometer over 5000 metres. The record breaking efforts took place on Monday 16 November during the Rowing New Zealand 5000 metre squad ergometer testing, which is part of the summer squad programme.

Edward posted a stunning time of 18:15.2 over 5000 metres and broke the world record in the 19-29 age group for lightweight females, beating the previous record set by Australia's Sarah Perkins earlier this year by ten seconds. Murray’s remarkable time of 14:56.4 for 5000 metres (with the use of sliders) set a world record in the men's heavyweight division.
