Skill learning in rowing; the key influences on the way rowers move.

Ever wanted to speed up the time taken for rowers to move differently or be able to perform well under pressure? Then come to this interactive workshop with one of New Zealand’s leading skill learning experts to look at key influences on how skills are learnt We will look at easy to apply principles and ideas on how to get all your rowers to move differently, as well as knowing more about helping them perform movements under pressure. This workshop will cover the latest research on the similarities and differences between on-water rowing and ergometers in terms of forces applied and back positions of rowers; as well as ideas for supporting rowers to learn efficient on-water movements.

Dr Sarah-Kate Millar: Sarah-Kate (Skate) is a senior lecturer in sports coaching and skill acquisition at AUT University. Sarah-Kate has previously been an international rowing coach, as well as coaching several other sports. In the past 8 years she has worked widely in the area of coach development across a board range of sports. Sarah-Kate’s research area is predominately skill acquisition and she is a big advocate for constraints-led approach to coaching.
