The Union Boat Club, established in 1877 is located at 1c Taupo Quay, Whanganui. The Club caters for both males and females in both sweep oar and sculling.

Over the years, the Boat Club has won many New Zealand titles and athletes and coaches from the club have gone on to represent New Zealand in international competition. Former New Zealand rower Rebecca Scown and Phillipa Baker-Hogan, are UBC club members and National coaches, Richard Tonks and Calvin Fergusson are also former members of the Club.

Pupils from Cullinane College, Whanganui City College and Whanganui Girls College row from the club and the club supports these schools efforts at local, regional and national secondary school regattas. Crews and individuals from both these schools have won a number of titles at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships over the years.

As well as having a proud heritage the Club is keen to be at the forefront of changes in contemporary rowing and sculling. UBC has programmes for Club, School, Masters and Recreational rowers.
